Homeschooler take on Public School Week 3

Homeschooler take on Public School
Week 3

Day 20: This week is School Pride week for homecoming. They are wearing pajamas today. They love this kind of thing and are going to dress up all week. My son asked if they could take the bus tomorrow morning just to see what it’s like in the morning. I love how they are wanting to experience all the things.

Day 21: Today was dress up like a cartoon character or Disney character. My son dressed up as Bunny from Toy Story 4 and my girl dressed up as Stitch. I woke them up at 6:00 so we could make it to the bus stop at 6:45. We got there at 6:50. School wasn’t for another hour. We were sitting in the car thinking what now? Then all of the sudden the bus gets off the freeway and we are relieved. It was cool to see the bus with lights inside because it was still dark outside. The kids enjoyed that part as well.

Day 22: Retro Day at school. I found my son the perfect shirt of a guy wearing peace sunglasses a mustache and the shirt said, “This is my 70’s outfit”. My daughter wore a 80’s dance outfit with a side ponytail. I love how they are dedicated to dressing up everyday. They were shocked a lot of kids weren’t dressing up at all.

Day 23: My daughter is having issues with a girl in her class. She was also in her dance class a couple years ago. The crazy thing is this group of girls were so nice to her when she started going to school for a week. Now all of them act like she doesn’t exist or are flat out rude to her. For instance this one girl asked her when she was going to be done with school and go back to homeschooling. Another one wont let her sit by her and her friends in class. Girls can be so mean. She told me she is over school but she will stay there with her brother through October.

Both of my kids dressed up as their favorite teachers for “ Dress as a Teacher Day”. My son wore a nice shirt with a tie and jeans. My daughter wore linen overalls. Both teachers felt very honored when they saw them because they were the only ones who made the effort to dress up and more importantly as them.

Day 24: Today was the first assembly they had ever experienced and they both loved it. Right before the assembly, my son was called to the principals office. My daughter heard it in her class and she was excited that he may be in the assembly. They gave him a school shirt and told him it was for being AWESOME. He is thriving in school. He has made some real neat friends and is doing well in all of his classes except Math which is fine because we already were prepared for that. I’m beyond proud of all his efforts. He loves structure and school is filling that need for him. He is such a wonderful kid. I already knew that but it just reiterates it when I keep getting all this positive feedback from the school.
