Coordinated MLS — The ContextVM World #9

GM people, and welcome to the 9th issue of “The ContextVM World”, your biweekly appointment to discover everything you need to know about ContextVM, MCP, Nostr, and everything in between!

In today’s update, we cover the latest news from ContextVM. In particular, we present the finalists that will take part in the Summer of Bitcoin program during the next months, and discuss the latest release of our SDK.*

We also discuss the latest news from the ecosystem. A new MLS implementation has recently been published, and it uses CVM as its coordination layer.

We also show the features we are currently working on. Notably, our team is focused on reaching feature parity between the Rust and TypeScript SDKs.

Finally, we will share the most interesting news from the internet regarding the MCP ecosystem, AI agents, and more!

Let’s start!

News from ContextVM 📰

A list of updates, releases and new cool features.

  • Finalists: We selected the best students from the Summer of Bitcoin program. These students will spend the summer working on CVM, learning the ways of open-source development. Here are our finalists:

    • Harsh, who pushed the implementation of the Rust SDK.
    • Abhay, who pushed the work on CEP-15 for common tool schemas.
    • Khushvendra, who worked on the TypeScript SDK and CEP-22 for oversize payload transfer. He also had the time to do some maintenance work.

    Congrats to our new interns!

  • Updated SDK: We recently released new versions of our TypeScript SDK belonging to the v0.11.x family. Notably, version .10 added support for category tags for CEP-15 tools schema. Another patch version, .11, was released to add client-side event deduplication and improve error handling for open-streams (CEP-41).

News from the ContextVM Ecosystem 🗞️

  • Coordinated MLS: Cordn is a new MLS-based protocol that uses CVM in an innovative way, relying on it as deployment and transport layer. Cordn introduces a coordinator, whose task is to provide strong message ordering, fetch semantics, and delivery for proposals, commits, welcomes, and application messages. Leveraging CVM makes self-hosting in ordinary environments (like your home network) easier, facilitates portability, and improves traffic privacy. Check out the Cordn repository, find out more about its trade-offs with respect to other MLS-based implementations, and join Cordn to be invited to our CVM group!

  • Better search: Relatr recently published v0.2.9. The latest release introduces significant improvements to search functionality by developing a new algorithm, making profile searches more relevant to the actual query. It is important to note that this is a breaking change with respect to previous versions, and result ordering may be different.

What’s Next for ContextVM? ⏭️

Let’s take a look at the features currently being implemented! Check out our Roadmap to always be up-to-date with the latest developments!

  • The work to reach feature parity between the Rust SDK and the TypeScript one is progressing steadily. The team is currently focusing on integrating CEP-17, for server relay list metadata, and CEP-22, for oversize payload transfer. You can take a look at IS64 to keep track of the progress.

  • The team is working to update CEP-8, which specifies how payments should work for CVM, to add a new lifecycle based on explicit errors. This modification would allow to work with 402-like approaches.
