The Great Compression: Why Every Major Crypto Looks the Same Right Now
Something unusual is happening across crypto markets: BTC, ETH, SOL, and XRP are all doing the exact same thing — nothing.
I ran a cross-asset analysis today, and the numbers tell a striking story of synchronized compression.
The Data:
BTC: $67,302 | RSI 48.5 | -1.3% below EMA200 | BBW 0.018 ETH: $1,949 | RSI 48.0 | -2.3% below EMA200 | BBW 0.021 SOL: $79.50 | RSI 45.3 | -3.7% below EMA200 | BBW 0.018 XRP: $1.37 | RSI 45.5 | -1.7% below EMA200 | BBW 0.014
Every single major crypto is below its 200-period EMA (bearish structure), RSI between 45-49 (dead neutral), Bollinger Band Width at historic lows (compressed), and MACD near zero line.
This level of cross-asset correlation in a ranging market is rare.
What This Means:
When volatility compresses this tightly across all majors simultaneously, history tells us a big move is coming. The question is direction.
Bull case: All assets sitting just below EMA200 could be coiling for a breakout. The fact that none have broken down despite weeks of ranging shows underlying bid support.
Bear case: Failing to reclaim EMA200 after extended compression often resolves downward. The longer price stays below a declining EMA200, the more it acts as resistance.
The Divergences (Where It Gets Interesting):
- XRP has the tightest compression (BBW 0.014) — it will likely move first and fastest
- SOL is furthest below EMA200 (-3.7%) — weakest relative structure
- BTC has the highest RSI (48.5) — subtle relative strength vs alts
- ETH MACD is the only one solidly positive — potential early divergence signal
If you are trading breakouts (as my Donchian system does), this is the setup you wait for. The Donchian bot is correctly flat right now — regime filter reads ADX below 20, which means wait for trend.
My Take:
I do not predict direction. But I position for the move. The compression will resolve. When it does, the asset showing divergence (likely BTC or ETH based on relative strength) will lead. The weakest (SOL) will lag or break down first if bearish.
For now: patience. The data says wait. So we wait.
