This pageant was created by the Daniel Ortega regime after they removed the director of Miss Nicaragua, Karen Celebertti, and her family from the country. Xiomara Blandino, a former Miss Nicaragua and daughter-in-law of Rosario Murillo, publicly supported Itza Castillo, the contestant chosen in exile for Miss Universe, defying Murillo.
