Description
In this video, I discuss the “JST Version” of the Bible. Joseph Smith rewrote and edited enormous portions of the Bible from Genesis through Revelation and claimed that he did it under Divine Inspiration. There were over 3,900 changes made to the original KJV text!!! And no, they’re not simply grammatical or punctuation corrections but are predominantly significant doctrinal changes that completely alter the Word of God. The mainstream LDS church does not use the JST Bible officially but the doctrinal changes are still found elsewhere within LDS scripture. (Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price and in their KJV Footnotes.) The RLDS holds the copyright to the JST but did give portions of it to the LDS church to use and publish for their own use a few decades ago. Join me as we discuss this and learn why it all matters!

00 Hey guys, hope you’re doing well. Welcome to my channel. If you’re new here, welcome. I am glad that you’re here. I’m glad that you stopped by. Just know that I have a whole channel of a whole bunch of different videos having to do with Latter-day Saint doctrine and biblical Christianity. And I compare the two and I get into doctrine and I get into history and I get into all the things. So, I’m glad you’re here. And if you’re a returning subscriber or if you’ve seen my videos in the past, welcome back. Great to have you. Glad you’re here. Um, today I’m going to get into the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible once again. And I’m actually going to cover really specific stuff today.
40 I’m going to cover Genesis 1, 2, and 3 specifically because they are really, really important when it comes to to the Joseph Smith translation of the Bible. In Genesis chapter 1, 2, and 3, there’s a lot of doctrinal implications and doctrinal transformations that are made between the original biblical text and what Joseph Smith changes the text to say. And so, let’s just dive right in.
10 We are going to talk about Genesis 1 through3, which is basically creation and the fall, which is sin of mankind’s sin. So, Genesis 1 1-5. I want to put this up on the screen so you can just see them next to each other. So, KJV says, “In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth, and the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep, and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” But the Joseph Smith translation of this exact verse says, “In the beginning, I created the heaven and the earth upon which thou standest. And the earth was without form and void, and I caused darkness to come upon the face of the deep, and my spirit moved upon the face of the waters, for I am God.” So, you can see some pretty obvious changes. And he expands God’s voice here. He makes the creator’s identity really explicit, saying, “I created.” And the shift stresses that revelation is relational. Creation is an act of
28 living, self-revealing God, not an impersonal force. That’s what you’re going to hear as far as what the meaning was behind that. But the Joseph Smith translation also direct introduces direct speech foreshadowing the visionary narrative of Moses chapter 1 where creation is revealed through a divine conversation. So Moses chapter 1 is found in Latter-day Saint scripture. The book is called Pearl of Great Price.
58 So if you’re unfamiliar, I’ll do a quick refresher. We have the Book of Mormon, we have Doctrine and Covenants, we have Pearl of Great Price. Those are the three LDS distinct scriptures that they believe in. You’ll typically only hear about the Book of Mormon. Sincerely read through and pray about the Book of Mormon and see if it’s true. You know, see if you get that burning in your bosom. Well, why aren’t we talking about Doctrine and Covenants and Pearl of Great Price? Because they’re equally as relevant as LDS scripture, but they also are in total contradiction and opposition to the Book of Mormon. So, it’s just really deceiving to start with. Oh, the Book of Mormon, you know, see if we align here. It has everything.
39 It’s most correct book on earth. And yet, it teaches a totally different God than the rest of our scriptures. This is a problem. So, Joseph Smith came in and he took the Bible and verse one, chapter 1, the first words in the word of God, he’s like, I’m going to switch this around. And basically he switched it so that it’s like God directly speaking and it’s the foreshadowing to the visionary narrative of Moses chapter one. So in Moses chapter 1 in Pearl of Great Price this is like a quote uh yeah like in quotes like actual discussion between individuals.
19 So you’ll see this more as we come, but the cross references would be Moses 2:1 and 2, John 1-3 of the Joseph Smith translation. Mind you, not the original KJV cuz he would have a big problem there. And then Colossians 1:16, Doctrine and Covenants 88 12-13. It’s also on this subject, but again, the doctrinal implications have to dramatically change to fit the LDS doctrinal narrative. So, let’s get into the next one.
56 Um, Genesis 1 verse 26- 27. This would have to do with the divine council that you’ll hear about within Mormonism. So KJV says, “And God said, let us make man in our image after our likeness.” Now, let me just say as a biblical Christian reading the Bible, the word of God, let and God just plur uh uh sorry, singular, and God said, “Let us plural make man in our image singular after our likeness singular.” It doesn’t say, “Let us make go man in our images after our likenesses as if there’s a plurality of gods.” No, this is God saying, “Let us, the triune trinitarian Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, three persons. Let us make man in our image, singular, and our likeness, singular, because one God, three persons. They’re not distinct individual beings like Mormonism.” I had to stop and say that because listen to the Joseph Smith translation. And I God said unto mine only begotten who was with me from the beginning.
18 Let us make man in our image after our likeness. And it was so. And I God created man in mine own image in the image of mine only begotten created I him. Male and female created I them. So when he says, “And I God said unto mine only begotten,” which is referring to Jesus who was with me from the beginning. Don’t be confused. It’s not was with me from the beginning as the triune Godhead. It’s was with me from the beginning in the premortal existence of Mormonism. Joseph Smith is getting into this more progressively as we see him continue to write and we will see this very evidently in the book of Abraham LDS scripture also found in the Pearl of Great Price. So we’re going to start getting into a plurality of gods here, but you’ll see how slowly but surely we’re seeing everything about God change.
23 So all right, let’s keep going. And you can read more about, you know, this similar concept in Moses 2:es 26-27 and then also doctrine and covenants 93 21-23. Um, okay. Genesis 2 7-9. It’s um having to do with the breath of life. KJV and the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living soul. Okay, listen to the Joseph Smith translation of this.
58 It’s totally different. And I, the Lord God, formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul, the first flesh upon the earth, the first man also. Nevertheless, all things were before created, but spiritually were they created and made according to my word. He just like more than doubled that verse. So, it wasn’t just God formed him with the dust of the ground, breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and he became a living soul. Joseph Smith had to clarify the first flesh upon the earth and the first man also. But Adam was actually a spirit child. He was born in the premortal existence from heavenly father and heavenly mother. Cuz it says all things were before created before this. All things were before created but spiritually were they created and made according to my word. So in the spiritual realm, Adam had already been created, but now he’s
08 born flesh and blood, first man on the earth. So again, we’re getting into LDS doctrine here where uh everything’s, you know, it’s changing. This isn’t actually what the Bible teaches. This is what Joseph Smith began teaching. The addition distinguishes the spiritual creation preceding the physical creation, harmonizing Genesis with Pearl of Greg Price. Again, LDS doctrine, the book of Moses, 3:5, it reflects restoration cosmology.
42 All things are organized spiritually before they exist temporarily. So, you’ll see this in Doctrine and Covenants 29:31-32. So, we’re getting into big differences between biblical doctrine and LDS doctrine. Okay, let’s get into Genesis 2 18-2. The creation of woman, KJV says, “It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make him and help meet for him.” The Joseph Smith translation says, “It is not good that man should be alone.
20 Wherefore I will make and help meet for him. Therefore I, the Lord God, caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept. And I took one of his ribs, for it was the rib of his side, and closed up the flesh in thestead thereof. And the rib which I, the Lord God, had taken from man, made I a woman, and brought her unto the man. So the Joseph Smith translation emphasizes divine initiative and covenant unity. Help me denotes a companion corresponding in strength and holiness, not subordination.
59 In restoration theology, Adam and Eve are co-articipants in creation and covenant partners. So when we get into this doctrine and covenants 132 19-20, I actually want to read that for you. And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power, and the keys of the priesthood, and it shall be said unto them, Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection. And if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection, and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths, then shall it be written in the Lamb’s book of life, that he shall commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood. And if ye abide by in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent
03 blood, it shall be done unto them, and all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them in time, and through all eternity. and shall be of full force when they are out of the world. That they shall pass by the angels and the gods which are set there to their exaltation and glory in all things as as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fullness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever.
33 Then they shall be gods because they have no end. Therefore, they shall be from everlasting to everlasting because they continue. Then they shall be above all because all things are subject unto them. Then they shall be gods because they have all power and the angels are subject unto them. So really interesting. And then right after that, verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye abide my law, ye cannot attain to this glory. So this is talking about LGS exultation, the doctrine of exaltation.
10 It’s talking about sealing marriages being a sealing covenant, which uh you’re sealed to one another in the LDS temple and temple endowments are critical to an LDS person if they want to ever reach full exaltation. And so this is getting into the key. You you’re sealed. You’ll hold the keys of the priesthood. And then it’s talking about the resurrection. How basically the Jesus of Mormonism, yes, he died, but he just allowed for the resurrection of humanity. He didn’t save us from our sins. He just broke death’s power, allowing humanity to be resurrected to really any of the LDS afterlife destinations. And this gets into how you will inherit everything. It says thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, heights, and depths, and every you’ll be written in the Lamb’s book of life. And then it’s saying you can’t commit murder and all this stuff. But then it’s saying if you don’t
18 all through eternity this and shall be a full force when they’re out of the world they’ll pass by the angels and the gods which are set there and your exultation and glory in all things. So it’s saying it’s a continuation and then it says of the seeds forever and ever. So, it’s just like this exultation process where you’re going through these, you know, levels in the afterlife and you’re becoming the god of your own planet and you’re now heavenly father and your wife is heavenly mother and you’re populating your own earth and doing exactly what the heavenly father of this earth has done for us of humanity. So then verse 20, they’ll be gods because they have no end. Therefore, they’ll be from everlasting to everlasting because they continue and they’ll be above all because all things are subject unto them. They’ll be gods because they have all power in the angels are subject unto them. This is talking about humanity.
13 So, the reason I wanted to read that, it’s a really big deal. You might think when we’re getting into this whole Joseph Smith translation, these little minute changes supposedly to the Genesis account, no, they have enormous repercussions. So basically just by adding this information about Eve, it’s talking about um the restoration theology talks about Adam and Eve, how they’re co-articipants in creation and their covenant partners, just like we read about in Doctrine and Covenants. So this is getting into completely new doctrine that has nothing to do with biblical Christianity. In fact, it’s blasphemous. It’s teaching that humanity is going to become gods and be above all other things and you can exalt and be higher and higher than any else out there. So, this is getting into like deep deep doctrines when you actually read the other LDS scriptures and do a comparison. So, let’s keep going. I mean, we’re only in Genesis 2 and we’re already seeing major doctrinal implications.
22 Genesis 3:es 1-7. This is about the temptation and the fall. So in the KJV text it says, “Now the serpent was more subtle than any other beast of the field which the Lord God had made.” Let’s see what the JST says. And the serpent being more subtle than any other beast of the field with the which the Lord God had made said unto the woman, “Yay, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” and he spake by the mouth of the serpent.
55 So, Joseph Smith adds the clarification that he spake by the mouth of the serpent, identifying the tempter as Satan, not a literal talking animal. This edition harmonizes Genesis with later Revelation in Moses 4 1-7 that describes Satan’s rebellion and deception in Eden. So, I want to read Moses 4 1-7 because I think it’s really important to put these side by side. Moses 4 1-7 said, “And I, the Lord God, spake unto Moses, saying that Satan whom thou hast commanded in the name of mine only begotten is the same which was from the beginning.” And he came before me, saying, Behold, here am I. Send me. I will be thy son and I will redeem all mankind. That one soul shall not be lost and surely I will do it. Wherefore give me thine honor.
00 This is Satan which is supposedly heavenly father of Mormonism second born. He has Jesus as his firstborn spirit child in the pre-existence. Heavenly Father and Mother. They have Jesus. Then they have Lucifer, younger brother to Jesus, older brother to the rest of humanity. Both Jesus and Lucifer. Are we following here? Okay. So, Satan is saying, it says, “Oh, it’s just so much. Behold, here my son, me. I’ll be the son. I’ll redeem all mankind.” Satan’s saying, “Hey, God. Hey heavenly father, send me that no soul shall be lost and surely I will do it. Wherefore give me thine honor. Satan wants to become the Messiah.
55 But behold my beloved son which was my beloved and chosen from the beginning said unto me, Father, thy will be done and the glory be thine forever. So that’s what Jesus’ response was to Heavenly Father. Wherefore, because that Satan rebelled against me, and sought to destroy the agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him, and also that I should give unto him mine own power by the power of mine only begotten. I caused that he should be cast down. So, it’s kind of confusing with this old school language, but basically he’s saying Satan rebelled. He sought to destroy the free agency of man, which I, the Lord God, had given him. and also that I should give unto him mine own power. But he is saying he gave it to he wants to give it to the only begotten Jesus. I caused that he should be cast down. So Satan the son is cast out of heaven.
51 This is all Mormon doctrine. Clearly has nothing to do with the Bible. And he became Satan. Yay. even the devil, the father of all lies, to deceive and to blind men, and to lead them captive at his will, even as many as would not hearken unto my voice. And now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which I the Lord h God hath made. So here we have the Joseph Smith translation plugged into Moses, the book of Moses in the Pearl of Great Price. So even if LDS didn’t keep that, the mainstream LDS church did not keep the Joseph Smith translation as their KJV Bible or as their Bible I should say.
29 They they read the KJV Bible. They took a lot of like a lot of this was taken and put into Pearl of Great Price and they still use it and still read it as doctrine and as scripture. It’s just in a different book. So here we see what I just read. And Satan put into the heart of the serpent, for he had drawn away many after him. And he sought also to beguile Eve, for he knew not the mind of God. Wherefore he sought to destroy the world? And he said unto the woman, “Yay, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?” And he spake by the mouth of the serpent. And the woman said unto the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the tree trees of the garden, but of the fruit of the tree which thou beholdest in the midst of the garden.” God God has said, “You shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest you die.” And the serpent said unto the woman, “Ye shall not surely die, for God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, and your eyes shall be open, and ye shall be as
30 gods, knowing good and evil.“ And when the woman saw the tree was good for food, and that it became pleasant to the eyes, and the tree to be desired to make her wise, she took of the food thereof, and did eat, and also gave unto her husband with her, and he did eat. And then their eyes were open, and it continues. So, there are changes here, but I’m going to get back to what we were talking about. So this is about the temptation and the fall and the changes.
59 But then specifically now we’re in Genesis 3 8 through 24 which is the consequences and the promise. So KJV says, “And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day.” But the Joseph Smith translation says, “And they heard the voice of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day. And the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God because they had transgressed. And the Lord God called unto Adam and said, “Where goest thou?” So the Joseph Smith translation reenters this scene on divine presence and mercy. While transgression introduces mortality, the narrative reveals God’s continued out outreach. Restoration doctrine interprets the fall as a necessary step towards exaltation. So what that means is this restoration doctrine within Mormonism, they believe that the sin of Adam and Eve was absolutely necessary for um reaching full exaltation.
01 It’s not just this, you know, tragic event. It wasn’t what we born again Christians believe as yes, when sin entered the world, death entered the world and death with sin’s curse entered the world. And so we’re all going to die. And we’re under the condemnation of our own free will, which brought on sin and all evil, which is against God’s will. By the way, God is not the divine orchestrator of evil. God is the can’t even be around evil. He’s the complete and polar opposite of evil. He is holy.
35 So the other things here that we can’t ignore, Satan biblically is an angel. Satan was listed as Lucifer was one of the most beautiful of the angels. The angels are distinctly separate from obviously deity as well as humanity. The angelic realm is separate and we see the angelic realm all through scripture. So Lucifer was a fallen angel who did rebel in the heavenly realm against God. And he it scripture tells us he took onethird of the angels with him. They are angels. Lucifer was not the spirit child of heavenly father and mother. He is not brother to Jesus Christ. He certainly is not son of god. So that is so contradictory compared to biblical Christianity and biblical doctrine. We have to make that distinction. And then the fact that LDS believe that the sin of mankind is essential to the exultation process of Mormonism to reach full godhood one day. That says a lot because sin then is necessary and
51 God planned it and needed it. That’s a step that needed to happen where God’s initial plan was perfection and for people to live eternally forever. Adam and Eve were never meant to die, but they were given free will. They chose to listen to the deceiver, and God gave them that choice. That’s the beauty of life is nobody’s a puppet. I’m not a puppet. I have the ability to discern truth and I have the responsibility to respond to God’s gospel call and his prompting on my heart. The Holy Spirit calls and draws humanity unto himself.
31 And we have the responsibility to respond, to repent, and to turn away from our sins and to be biblically saved and redeemed through Jesus Christ’s blood and atonement on the cross. So very, very different. Sin absolutely was not necessary for God to accomplish his plan. But God in lie of sin messing up his perfect plan, he always has a solution. And that shows God’s mercy and love towards us as humanity because he still was willing to send Jesus Christ who personified God, took on flesh, dwelt among us, showed us who God was in the flesh, and he died because he was holy and perfect. He death couldn’t hold him. Death cannot hold a sinless being. So he defeated and conquered death. Rose again so that humanity by putting their faith in him. He bore our sins for us so that we could then accept through faith his free gift of salvation and redemption offering us new life in Christ. He was the fulfillment of all righteousness of God. And we then can come to saving faith and redemption
46 and reconciliation with the father. He is our mediator between us and the father. And he can reconcile that severed relationship. In the Bible, Christ is called the second Adam. The first Adam horribly messed it up. But the second Adam perfectly fulfilled everything and gave us the gospel. So, we’re getting into theology. I want to get back on track. But I just want to say there’s a massive difference between Mormon beliefs here and Mormon theology here and just doctrinal events and then that of biblical Christianity. Okay, let’s get back on track. I have a lot of cross reference scripture that I want to read, but I’m hesitant to do so because I feel like it’s going to take me forever to get through this. So, I’m just going to keep going.
34 Okay. So in Genesis 4-11, we see the early patriarchs and the flood and Cain and Abel. So KJV in Genesis 4 1-8 we read, “And Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain and said, I have given a man. I have gotten a man from the Lord.” And Cain talked with Abel his brother. And it came to pass when they were in the field that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and slew him. So this is when Cain and Abel, he is the first murder we see in scripture. And it sure didn’t take long cuz they’re, you know, first generation born after the garden. The Joseph Smith translation says, “And Adam and Eve, his wife, ceased not to call upon God. and Eve his wife conceived and bare Cain and said, “I have gotten a man from the Lord, wherefore he may not reject his words.” But Cain hearkened not, saying, “Who is the Lord that I should know him?” And she again conceived and bore his brother Abel. And Abel hearkened unto the voice of the Lord. Cain loved Satan more than God.
54 And Satan commanded him, saying, “Make an offering unto the Lord.” And in the process of time came to pass that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel also brought the first lings of his flock. So there are obviously similarities here, but they’re totally changing the narrative or they as in Joseph Smith. So Joseph Smith expands this account to show Cain’s rebellion as deliberate and spiritual, not impulsive. The text introduces Satan’s direct influence, establishing early patterns of apostasy and priestcraft.
31 This harmonizes with Moses 5 16-28, identifying the conflict between true and false worship and the first great division in human history. So again, we’re going to see in Moses 5:16-28 a stark contradiction to what we actually read in the account, the Genesis account of Cain and Abel. And Mormon doctrine is then going to get into the curse of Cain. And this actually is a very damaging doctrine because they say the curse of Cain is black skin. African-American black people, they’re saying they’re under the curse of Cain. And the Book of Mormon talks about how we are supposed to be pure and white and delightsome. And this is a doctrine I’ve also covered on my channel, but if basically and then Brigham Young has talked over and over and over again about the curse of Cain and how blackness comes upon the skin of those who have the curse. And so it’s just horribly unbiblical, very racist, very disturbing. Um, black people could
54 not hold the priesthood within Mormonism until American history. Of course, in 1978, they then finally opened the priesthood to black people. And so, the everchanging doctrines within Mormonism, this curse of Cain is still held obviously by Joseph Smith and then Brigham Young. And it was really driven home with these two prophets in particular. and we see this all throughout their furthering uh doctrinal teachings and then um the LDS scriptures. So I I wanted to get into that because we’re really getting into a totally different narrative of Cain than what the Bible teaches Cain to be and what he did and what the curse meant and everything. So actually this is our next section here and it will explain it a little bit better. Genesis 4:9-16 is the mark of Cain. So the KJV says, “And the Lord said unto Cain, where is Abel thy brother?” And he said, “I know not. Am I my brother’s keeper?” Well, the Joseph Joseph Smith translation
58 says, “And the Lord God said unto Cain, where is Abel thy brother?” And he said, “I know not. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And the Lord said, “What hast thou done? The voice of thy brother’s blood cries unto me from the ground, and now thou shalt be cursed from the earth. And I, the Lord, set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him. So the biblical account, Cain was terrified that he was going to get murdered. Other people were going to take his life because he had murdered his brother and he was so scared of this. So God marked him somehow. We don’t know what that meant, but it was to pre preserve his life so that Cain would not in fact get murdered. And that was God’s mark on Cain allowing him to live. And then of course, we know there were descendants of Cain and everything. But basically, Mormonism takes a whole another spin on this Mark of Cain. The LDS church teaches that the mark of Cain was a curse of dark skin that barred black
01 people from holding the priesthood. This was of course dissolved like I said and it was definitely early doctrine but then this isn’t going to fly in modern society. So this was undone in the late 1970s early 1980s. And so there’s a lot of it’s not only quotes from Joseph Smith and Brigham Young specifically, but there’s also so much doctrine on the the white and delightsome stuff and the pure and white stuff. So that’s Book of Mormon doctrine. And obviously they have had changes made to it, but that doesn’t change the fact that they had extremely racist doctrine having to do with white and black skin. So that is unbiblical 100% LDS.
49 Okay. Then in Genesis 5 1-3, we get into Adam’s genealogy. KJV, this is the book of the generations of Adam in the day that God created man and the likeness of God he made he him. But Joseph Smith translation says, “This is the book of the generations of Adam in the day that God created man in the likeness of God made he him in the image of his own body. Male and female created them and blessed them and called their name Adam in the day when they were created.” And so restoration revelation that humanity is literally created after the form of a divine personage is what they’re getting at. So basically in the image of his own body instead of in the likeness of God made he him. He’s saying in the image of his own body \[clears throat\] like we are created in the exact form of a divine personage. So doctrine in covenants 130 22. The father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s. the Son also, but the Holy Ghost is not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of spirit.
56 Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us. So, Doctrine in Covenants 130 is where we’re going to see official LDS doctrine. We also see it um elsewhere, but the father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s. So, Latter-day Saints believe that God the Father is a man just like you and me. uh he exalted into godhood just like the hope is of LDS men today. So God is completely different. And so this is a huge thing when it has to do with the likeness of God made he them in the image of his own body. That’s not what scripture says. That’s what the Joseph Smith translation says. And then of course Doctrine and Covenants among other places. Moses chapter 6 8-9. We’ll also get into this. For sake of time, I won’t read it. Genesis 5:22- 24. This is Enoch’s walk with God. So, the Bible doesn’t say a whole lot about Enoch. He was, we know he was taken. He didn’t actually die. We know that he was righteous and we know very little else.
00 So, the KJV says, “And Enoch walked with God after he begott Methuselah 300 years. and he was not for God took him. Meaning he did not die a natural death. He was taken up into heaven. And this only happened twice in recorded scripture. But the Joseph Smith translation says, “And Enoch walked with God after he begott Methuselah 300 years. And he taught the sons of men faith and righteousness. And the Lord called his people Zion because they were of one heart and one mind and dwelt in righteousness. And there was no poor thing among them. And Enoch was not for God took him.” So he he added a whole narrative about Enoch in there that is not in the Bible. So the Joseph Smith translation makes a parallel here to Moses chapter 2 or I’m sorry Moses chapter 7 and transforms a brief genealological note into a rich theology of Zion society and translation. So basically we’re seeing a whole change here to fit with the Moses 7 narrative.
59 Enoch’s people are a prototype of millennial unity, a restoration theme tied to temple covenant and gathering of Israel. So, he’s using Enoch expanding his story to get into the restoration theme within Mormonism tied to the temple covenants and the future gathering of Israel. So again, this is not biblical. This is Mormon doctrine, Latter- Day Saint doctrine. And for sake of time, again, I won’t get into Moses 7, but temple covenant is everything in Mormonism. The temple endowments, temple everything. They’re they’re critical.
42 You you can’t not have that. So, we have to continue to expand the Bible to fit the LDS narrative and the LDS doctrine. So, we’ll keep going. Genesis 8 or 6:es 1-8. wickedness before the flood. So KJV and it came to pass when man began to multiply on the face of the earth that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose.
09 This is like heavy doctrine here. So Joseph Smith translation says, “And it came to pass the men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them that these sons of men saw those daughters were fair and they took them as wives even as they chose. And the Lord said unto Noah, “My spirit shall not always strive with man, for he shall know that all flesh shall die, yet his days shall be 120 years.”
35 So, Joseph Smith translation is trying to clarify that sons of God refers not to angels, but to mortal men, contrasting the righteous line of Seth and the rebellious line of Cain. The prophecy of 120 years reflects divine long-term suffering before judgment. So we are totally changing everything here. Um instead of sons of God, okay, let me go back into it really quick. So the sons of God saw the daughters of man that they were fair. So we are now talking about fallen angels having \[clears throat\] relations with female human beings and then we had from them the Nephilim, the giants. This is a part of Genesis historical account that it’s really like deep when you start diving in and really studying who were they and how did this happen and all this stuff. But basically Joseph Smith is taking that completely away and he’s saying the sons of God. No, no, no. This isn’t referring to angels. This is just mortal men. It’s humanity. And he’s
44 contrasting the righteous line of Seth, which we read about in the Bible. Seth had a righteous line that God blessed, and then the rebellious line of Cain. I actually just read this in my devotions like a couple weeks ago in Genesis. So, he’s just changing the narrative once again to fit into LDS doctrine of the premortal existence and who everybody is, which is very bizarre. Like you’d think that he would have worked his story around the angelic realm since it’s so dominant all throughout scripture. But anyway, Genesis 6 9-22 is Noah’s covenant. Okay, so KJV, Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations and Noah walked with God.
25 But the just Joseph Smith translation says Noah was a just man and perfect in his generation and walked with God as did also his three sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. And the Lord said unto Noah, “The end of all flesh is come before me, but with thee I will establish my covenant, and thou shalt come into the ark, and thy sons and thy wife, and they thy son’s wives with thee.” So, Joseph Smith translation expands Noah’s righteousness to his whole household. He doesn’t just leave it as Noah being declared as a righteous man, linking this story to the restoration ideal of family salvation through the covenant. So, he had to pull the rest of Noah’s family into that.
11 And the flood prefigures baptismal cleansing, a theme reaffirmed in first Peter. Okay. So, basically that isn’t necessarily going towards the LDS doctrinal uh statement here, but basically the restoration ideal of family salvation through covenant that we’re going to that’s going to be taught through Mormonism. So basically what that means is in the LDS faith family salvation is achieved through making and keeping the sacred covenants primarily in the temples which allows families to be eternally bound together. So this is sealing of families in temple covenants and the temple endowments and things. So the eternal family doctrine centers on the sealing ordinance for married couples and also having their children sealed to them, ensuring relationships continue beyond death. It requires individuals to honor their covenants and repent while also performing temple ordinances for deceased ancestors. This
14 is baptism for the dead to extend family blessings across generations. So what that is getting into with him extending this covenant to the sons, we may not think that’s a really big deal. Like, okay, well, whatever. He just wanted the sons to be declared as righteous, too. No, no, no, no. He’s getting into family salvation through covenant. And this is 100% LDS beliefs because temple ordinances and everything to do with their temple, it’s essential. You cannot exalt. You cannot reach exaltation without that eternal marriage ceiling and then all of the other things. Okay. So, all of the parts we’ve gone over so far show a continuing desire to continually change the doctrine and push forward towards the evolving theology and beliefs and doctrinal, you know, evolution within LDS beliefs. And so Joseph’s piecing this in, you know, little bit by little bit, starting with Genesis 1. It literally goes all the way through Genesis. There’s so many changes, chapter after chapter after chapter, changing little things here, little things here, but really, they have
24 massive doctrinal implications, and they’re completely changing the story around. I don’t want to get into the entire thing because it really is a lot. But basically, one of the points I wanted to make is he doesn’t just retransate, but he restores the doctrinal context. He viewed Genesis as a bridge scripture requiring prophetic realumination. And so the spiritual creation before the physical creation, meaning the pre-existence and then Satan’s authorship of deception in Genesis 3, they realign the text with a cosmic narrative of agency, opposition, and divine fornowledge core to the restoration cosmology of Mormonism. And then faith and revelation.
19 Faith is portrayed as precipitatory revelation. The believer is just cooperating with divine will. And the Genesis in the Joseph Smith translation is continually reaffirming that the prophets receive revelation directly from God because he wants to he too claims to be receiving revelation directly from God and so do LDS prophets to this day. So, basically, we’ve gone through little bits of it, and there’s a lot more. I’ve actually I have notes that just go on and on and on and on that I’ve looked up and researched and looked into and like put into my notes, but basically the summary of the whole Genesis story through the Joseph Smith translation, it’s a restoration blueprint. He had to go through and change Genesis dramatically to fit in with the restoration gospel of the LDS belief system. And so by changing piece by piece and subtly or not so subtly putting in LDS doctrine here and there and everywhere so that it will align with Doctrine and Covenants and that it will align with Pearl of
37 Great Pis which by the way came along later after the Book of Mormon. they continue to teach new and completely different things. And so when you see this, you know, series of all of these changes, you can see then when he came in to make all these changes with the Joseph Smith translation, he needed the Bible to fit with the LDS doctrinal narrative that we see in Mormonism today. So I hope that this was helpful. It was actually really helpful for me to go verse by verse, section by section, even though I didn’t go all the way through it with you guys cuz it’s just it’s a lot. I could be here all night. But I think it’s really important to go piece by piece through it and really see, okay, he made that change.
22 Why did he make it? Oh wow, that does align with Doctrine and Covenants. Oh my goodness, that fits right in with Moses or the book of Abraham in Pearl of Great Price, not Moses of the Bible. And so I find that really really fascinating and I think it’s just really important to kind of be aware of these things because so many people you can skim by it and really not know the doctrinal implications but the doctrinal implications are vast and it’s really important to know uh what they are what they mean and why it matters. As long as we’re talking about Genesis, I wanted to add that during the translation of the Bible through the Joseph Smith translation, did you guys know that Joseph Smith added verses to Genesis 50 that are interpreted by all of the critics as being selfinsertion? He’s prophesying of a sear with the very same name, Joseph. So basically, he has written himself into the Bible, which is
23 really kind of wild when you think about it. So I want to show you where this is. So King James version of the Bible, Genesis 50, ends at verse 26. But the Joseph Smith translation does not end there. He adds several more verses and they contain the prophecy that the biblical Joseph son of Jacob gave to his descendants and it foretells that the Lord would r raise up a choice sear in the latter days. This sear is promised special blessings and protection.
58 So it describes the sear stating, “A sear will rise up out of the fruit of thy loins, and unto him will I give power to bring forth my word unto the seed of my loins.” The verses also promise blessings to the seer, and mention that his name shall be called Joseph, and it shall be after the name of his father, and he shall be like unto you.“ And so you can find all of these verses and read them in exact form. But I do find it interesting that towards the end of Genesis now, Joseph was like, I’m not done. I’m going to like plug myself into and add entirely new verses to the end of Genesis 50 and I’m going to talk about myself as a seer and that I’m continuing the line of prophet. So anyway, that’s a good note to end this video on. I know we just covered Genesis, but I wanted to show you that Genesis implications of the Joseph Smith translation are vast and they’re important and I find them very interesting and hopefully you do, too. I think for people who aren’t into Mormonism, this could be like such a
01 drag. But for those of us who are fascinated by studying religion and really seeing the differences between Christianity and Mormonism, I think this stuff is just really important. And anyway, I’m glad you tuned in to listen. So, well, was that exhausting for you cuz it was exhausting for me? I realized I can’t just go through the entire thing cuz there’s so much to unpack. Um, these videos take \[music\] so much research.
29 They really do. They require a lot of research, a lot of diving into these little niche doctrinal things and going, you know, sidebyside comparisons and then cross referencing. Well, what is the doctrinal implication of that? Or why does that matter? Or where are we going to find that in LDS scripture? Um, since this isn’t in fact \[music\] accepted by mainstream LDS doctrine, you know, the mainstream LDS church doesn’t even accept necessarily the Joseph Smith translation. They don’t use it. They stick with the KJV text, \[music\] the original biblical text. But it’s just super fascinating when you get into this stuff. It really can become a deep dive.
10 But I want to make these videos cuz I know how important and how relevant they are. And I hope that it’s helpful for you. \[music\] It’s helpful for me as I’m studying and diving in deeper. And anyway, I just want you to know that these videos do require a whole lot of time and research. And that’s also why I’ve taken a little bit of a break between \[music\] being on YouTube now for the last couple of years cuz I put out so much content in the first few years.
34 But it is great to be back honestly and I’m having a lot of fun diving in again and making this content for you and helping you guys understand. And \[music\] anyway, it’s just been it’s been fun for me to get back into it and I’m happy to do it. But if you guys also I want to throw it out there. If you have any requests or relevant topics or videos that you’re like, hey, I’ve never heard a video being been made on this particular concept before having to do with Mormonism or biblical Christianity. Or if you have a question, well, what do you believe, Jesse, in regard to this? I was born and raised in the LDS church and I don’t actually know what biblical Christians even believe in regard to whatever. Just let me know cuz I would love to hear back from my viewership and see what your interests are and what is helpful \[music\] to you. And also if topics like this one where I’m going, you know, phrase by phrase, verse by verse, if that’s helpful for you in your understanding of, wow, doctrine within
38 Mormonism is so vastly different than the doctrine held within biblical Christianity. So anyway, I hope it’s helpful. It it is a little repetitive and exhausting at times. I’ve made videos in the past, too, where I’m like going phrase by phrase, quote by quote, and I’m like, is this ever going to end? But nonetheless, I think the content itself is just super relevant and very \[music\] important. So anyway, I’m happy to do it. I’m glad to be here with you guys. Thanks for sticking with me on a a video that really covered a lot of ground in a short period of time.
09 \[music\] But just know that I appreciate you. I’m glad you’re here. And I I love learning together. And I just I hope and pray that this video was beneficial and that you can discover more and more about what biblical Christianity truly is and what we believe and what the the word of God teaches \[music\] in contrast to the doctrine and beliefs found within the Latterday Saint faith and religion.
35 So, \[music\] thanks again for coming back and I just want to encourage you if you haven’t already, I’d love for you to subscribe to my channel so you can see what my new content is as soon as I post it. And any like I get on this video actually really helps me get \[music\] seen and it helps me get put into people’s algorithms. And of course the point of YouTube is to be seen. \[music\] And I want active LDS members to see my videos. I want those who are transitioning out of the church to \[music\] see my videos. And I want those who have converted to biblical Christianity out of Mormonism to see my videos because I think it’s helpful in any one of these phases to just try to \[music\] better understand why our beliefs differ and why it matters. So all right you guys, I hope you have a great day. Great to see you again and I will be back soon. God bless you.
